National Computer Security Day!
Today is National Computer Security day, so we’re celebrating all things cyber-security. Cue the party poppers, streamers and (given the festive season), gluhwein. Why not?
Getting people to pay sufficient attention to such an admittedly dry subject, is a tough gig. We’re currently adrift between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We’re also competing for attention with other notable days, such as St. Andrew’s day, Choose Women Wednesday, and Barbados Independence Day.
If we’re to get the message out there about digital security, we’ve gotta go big with a bold statement, so here it is…
We’re going all-in for our ISO27001 Information Security Management System certification. Gasps of awe proliferate through the audience.
Still not glamorous, but a truly massive goal for a team of our modest headcount. It’s a statement of intent, but more importantly, a framework that ensures that every aspect of what we do ‘leans into’ (buzzword bingo 🙂) information security. Yes, we’re already Cyber Essentials certified, but with ISO27001, we’re turning up the dial.
Of course, not every gesture has to be quite so bold. With cyber security, it’s often the small things that matter. Here are a few things you can do today to make a difference…
- That password you’ve never changed since you set up your account? Change it
- Turn off wi-fi on your phone if you’re not using it
- Install a password manager
- Update your malware protection software
- Lock your work computer when you’re away from your desk
- Reward yourself with a St. Andrew’s Day celebration.
Have a great day!
